How to Use Leather Dye
It is essential to clean thoroughly and remove finishes prior to application. The cleaning required is different depending on the material of the item.
Instructions for Dying Leather
For leather, rub the surface to be dyed with the rough side of an 'applicator sponge' to remove dirt, shoe creams and protectors that are on the leather which would prevent the correct application of the dye.
Apply the preparer to the item. Wait to dry not longer than 20 mins.
Turn the bottle upside down and shake vigorously.
Apply Easy Leather Dye on to the soft side of the sponge.
Gently rub on to the surface using an even circular movement until the sponge becomes almost dry.
Always prevent a heavy build up of colour.
If necessary repeat the process for a second time to obtain the correct finish, always making sure that the previous layer is totally dried.
Instructions for Dying Synthetic Leather
For synthetic leather, rub with a soft cloth to remove all dirt (washingup liquid can be used to help). Do not use a green scourer or rough side of sponge like you do for real leather items.
Using preparer may or may not assist in the process, so please spot test. It won't harm if you do though, just might not be needed, synthetic leathers differ, so spot test.
Turn the bottle upside down and shake vigorously.
Apply Easy Leather Dye directly to the synthetic leather (not on to the sponge like you do for real leather).
Using the soft side of the 'applicator' sponge, gently rub the surface using an even circular movement until the sponge becomes almost dry.
Always prevent a heavy build up of colour.
If necessary repeat the process for a second time to obtain the correct finish, always making sure that the previous layer is totally dried.
Instructions for Dying Canvas
For canvas, wash with water and soap.
Turn the bottle upside down and shake vigorously.
Dilute the supplied dye with water half and half in a separate container.
Apply diluted Easy Leather Dye directly to the canvas (not on to the sponge like you do for real leather).
Using the soft side of the included sponge, Gently rub the surface using an even circular movement until the sponge becomes almost dry.
Always prevent a heavy build up of colour.
If necessary repeat the process for a second time to obtain the correct finish, always making sure that the previous layer is totally dried.
